Careers

The Energy Institute can provide information on the very wide range of careers that are available within the sector. Our members come from very many backgrounds and roles and they represent the diverse and multi-disciplinary nature of the industry. We have provided a few examples below. Why not join them today?
Chukwumerije Njoku CEng MEI (Chartered Energy Engineer) - Jacobs

Chuks Njoku joined the EI at the start of 2003 as a Graduate member. He was looking for his first crucial career move in energy, having heard about the Energy Institute through his postgraduate university. Once he had found a position, he gained excellent experience on renewable technologies and energy systems in a short space of time. By early 2005, he was looking to upgrade. After following the necessary processes, he was successful, and accepted as a full professional member of the Institute. He was one of the first to be awarded the prestigious title of “Chartered Energy Engineer”, and all of this he achieved by the age of 32.

Donald Lack CSci FEI – Associate Head of Office, Atkins Design Solutions

“The application process was well explained and the guidance documentation useful. The templates made completing the evidence stages simple. I found that I had access to a number of published documents and papers that supported my process and was very useful to reference my work.

CSci has allowed me to focus on my work in relation to science. I also feel that clients and other consultants are listening more and taking more notice because of my registration.”

David Reid CEng MEI (Chartered Petroleum Engineer) – Reserves Auditor, Shell Exploration and Production

David ReidDavid was an applicant who had to follow the Individual Case Procedure to get Chartered. Whilst many applicants are put off by this, this shows that there is no need to be. He was also one of the first to become a Chartered Petroleum Engineer, and in his early thirties, is undoubtedly one of the youngest.

“The Individual Route was straightforward, thorough and professional. The documentation and instructions for membership were clear and concise, with assistance provided where required. Overall, the whole process was handled professionally and diligently. I am a strong believer in professional accreditation for engineers as this provides a structured framework for core technical skills and future career development.”
