The Pembroke Refinery was commissioned in September 1964 at a rated capacity of 5.9 million metric tons per year which was subsequently increased to 7 million metric tons per year, and reached 9 million metric tons per year during 1973. Process units include an atmospheric crude distillation unit, vacuum distillation unit, naphtha hydrotreater and reformer (continuous catalyst regenerator type), Visbreaker, kerosine sweetening unit, and a hydrotreater for desulphurisation of kerosines and diesel oils. Products include gasolines, kerosines, jet fuels, diesel/gas oils, fuel oils and LPG. Air cooling is used almost exclusively.

Texaco are equal partners with Gulf in Pembroke Cracking Company whose 90 000 BPSD FCCU and associated facilities are adjacent to and integrated with the Texaco refinery. These facilities which came on stream in the Spring of 1982 are operated by Texaco for the Partnership.

75% of the refinery output of finished products is distributed by sea, the refinery Marine Terminal being capable of handling tankers up to 275 000 dwt. A pipeline delivers fuel oil to the nearby Pembroke Power Station and Texaco has an interest in Mainline Pipelines Limited which operates a pipeline from the Milford Haven area to the Midlands and Manchester.

The refinery, which is the only one owned by Texaco in the United Kingdom, is sited partly in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and great care is taken in general layout and landscaping.
